After the worst flood to hit central Iowa in decades, this building was flooded and left without utilities.
The building owner walked away from it, leaving the tenants - mostly low-income or elderly - no options other than to move themselves out or stay and squat in a building with no electricity, central air, or running water.
In November, the building manager (a former tenant) locked the doors, forcing about a dozen squatters out. It now has a new owner and we are in the process of completing necessary repairs to get it up and running again.
It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
